Easily grow your email & SMS lists by running Instagram Giveaways and other campaigns. Typical setup time: 10 minutes.
Before setup, review this case study to see an example flow:
Step 1: Connect Gatsby with Klaviyo or other tools
Step 2: Make sure you have an active plan or active free trial
If you're not sure, follow these steps.
Step 3: Add Your SMS Subscribers list (if you're using Klaviyo SMS)
Note: If you're not sure what to put, just copy/paste the same as your main list ID.
Note: Collecting phone numbers from Instagram is currently only available for Gatsby clients in the US and Canada. We're working on supporting additional country codes soon!
Step 4: Brainstorm an Instagram Campaign
Design a simple strategy for Instagram users to know that they should DM you their email or phone number.
Common Campaigns:
- Run a Giveaway (as shown in this case study)
- Evergreen offer in your Instagram Bio (as shown on this bio)
- Give keywords to ambassadors to share (as shown in this ambassador post)
Step 5: Create Your DM Auto-Replies in Gatsby
Auto-Reply #1: Triggered by a keyword in a Comment or DM
1. In Gatsby, navigate to the left side pane >> Auto-Replies >> New Auto-Reply
Fill out the page to look something like this:
The above setup means that when an Instagram User comments on any of your Instagram posts or reels with the keyword 'FRESH' they will receive a DM right away that says "Yay! To finish your entry..." (comments on Instagram Lives are not supported)

If you choose the "DMs" trigger, that means if they DM you the keyword, they'll receive this auto-reply.
Example text for this auto-reply:
Yay! To finish your entry, reply with your email or phone number and join our list!
Special consideration: If you leave keyword blank and leave filters as-is, that means everyone who comments anything on any of your posts will receive this auto-reply:
Auto-Reply #2: Advanced Auto-Reply to receive Email or Phone number
1. In Gatsby, navigate to the left side pane >> Auto-Replies >> New Auto-Reply
2. For the first question, choose "DMs"
3. For the second question, toggle the switch on for "Advanced Auto-Reply"
4. In the middle of the page, toggle the switch on for "Phone Number" or "Email Address"
This means you will trigger this auto-reply when you receive an email address or phone number in a DM
And in most cases, leave this keyword field blank.
A keyword here, with Email Address toggled on, means a person needs to send you another keyword and their email address in the same DM to trigger this auto-reply. It's typically used for multi-regional brands or to avoid support conversations from triggering the auto-reply.
5. Fill out the rest of the form to look something like this:

Notice the keyword syncs to Klaviyo so you can segment subscribers by which giveaway they entered and more!
Not in the US or Canada?
SMS is currently only available for US and CA numbers, however you can still use the Advanced Auto-Replies for Email subscribers or to direct your customers to your website or a product page. For the latter, choose the "Link" option instead of "Gatsby Action"
